Review and Buying Guide of AEG EWA7800-U 7 Series Digital Kettle 2400 W

A good sturdy kettle with flimsy plastic lid which doesn’t open. Seems to take ages to boil when filled, but one cup tubo is ok. Also very annoying very loud beeping when boiled. Would not buy this at full price.

For a kettle you have to admit its a bit pricey, after all it just boils water. That said,in the main, it is a well designed bit of kit with temperature indicator /control for different brews and a keep warm facility. If i have a negative comment i would suggest the water level window is in the wrong place – tucked behind the handle, so when you fill it you can’t really make use of the facility. That said it is a quality product and i would buy it again.

I read a few reviews which complained about the lid and electronics on this kettle. Despite having reservations, i decided to take a chance and get one because i liked the looks, the features and the base. This kettle should be in a modern house because it is designed to fit in with the other equipment from aeg. I like the fact that the handle is a comfortable fit in my large hands, without being clumsy like some of the others that i have tried. The handle will fit womens’ hands equally well as it’s not too large. I have found that the lid operates well but it is all plastic, including the hinges and all other parts associated with it. Too much plastic working parts in a kettle is a designer’s mistake. The body of the kettle is all brushed stainless steel which is not as shiny as the photos of it. Brushed stainless steel is not as easy to clean as polished steel and not as attractive.

Comments from buyers

“ATTRACTIVE PRODUCT, Good looking kettle and great tasting hot drinks., Beautiful but Expensive, Stylish kettle but pricey and the lid is not great, Kettle from outer space!, Brilliant, but I still need a butler.”

Good looking kettle and great tasting hot drinks. . It makes such a difference to green and herbal tea that the water is at the correct temperature. When i fist used the kettle for green tea the water looked murky at first, but once it was ready to drink the tea looked lovely. There has been comments about the hinge for the lid being fragile. I would say the hinge works fine and anyway most of the time i fill the kettle from the spout.

Edit12th oct 2015the temperature display is now fairly random it indicates 95 degrees then 77 degrees and just jumps about. At first i thought that it needed descaling as the temperature probe is a little point in the base, however this made no difference. Still boils ok but no use for heating to a set temperature. Original review below rating changed to 3 star. ===================================================================================================out of the box this is a very stylish kettle. The base is slightly larger than i expected but this is because it contains the control buttons. On placing it on the stand and turning the power on at the wall socket there is a fairly loud bleep and the initial water temperature is displayed. Once full of water a single press on the start/cancel button starts the kettle heating up. While they say that a watch pot never boils it is fascinating to watch the temperature rise until it reaches 100′ c when it bleeps and turns off.

Brilliant, but i still need a butler. . The old saying says ‘a watched kettle never boils’ is finally disproved, as you can watch the lcd readout on this one rise as it heats. It is a very ‘smartkettle’, with its various settings, including the economical one cup setting. I like the stay warm one, when i’m in the mood for a refill, but i still have to investigate the presets button, and see what i need from that. In every normal respect, it is a great kettle, very fast, easy to fill, and quite easy to lift when full, due to its light empty weight. It is also easy to find in the dark, first thing in the morning thanks to the lcd, and the illunimated scale on the side beneath the handle. Handy for when your eyes are still glued shut with ‘eye boogers’. It has disproved one old saying, but it can’t change another one. It does everything except make the tea.

Looks lovely in my new kitchen. Looks lovely in my new kitchen. It’s quick to boil, stylish and holds a surprising amount. There’s also a one cup quick boil facility.

It is sleek and stylish (so stylish i think i need a better kitchen as it looks a bit out of place) and looks like it belongs on a spaceship. It is very smelly at first, but don’t let it put you off. Your kitchen might smell like a barnyard, but once you’ve boiled it a few times the smell soon goes away. This kettle has some really cool features, like if you press the ‘keep warm’ button once it’s boiled, it’ll keep the water warm for 40 minutes, perfect for those ‘two cups of tea’ kind of mornings. The beep is also loud and clear, no more having to re-boil because you didn’t hear it go off. There’s even a ‘turbo one-cup’ setting where you can boil up to 200ml of water (enough for one cup of tea) in under 60 seconds, meaning you get your caffeine fix even sooner. There are many other fancy settings that i haven’t tried out yet, like being able to set the temperature it boils to, which is apparently useful for green tea as you don’t want the water as hot – being a builder’s tea drinking i doubt i’ll use this one, but it is a great function to have available.

Stylish kettle but pricey and the lid is not great. What’s good:stylish appearancepreset settingscomfortable to holdone-handed lid-releasewhat’s not so good:expensivelid-release mechanism can be a little temperamental and potentially vulnerablelid itself doesn’t look as nice as the rest of the devicevisibility of the water level gauge – depending on your hand size/positionthis is certainly a classy-looking device. From its brushed stainless steel veneer to it’s shapely lines and clear lcd display on the base. The handle is chunky and comfortable, and the spout is well-shaped. The base is a 360-degree type which is practical and stable, with no obvious slackness to it when the kettle is mounted – which is something i have seen before on other kettles which have allowed them to wobble when in operation. The only part of the kettle i don’t really like in appearance is the lid. It somehow looks a little bit cheap compared to the rest of it. There is the usual cable tidy in the underside of the base to allow you to coil in any unused wire. There are presets for specific tea types, which you may or may not find helpful. Ultimately it is from the knowledge that 100 degree celsius may be ok for common-or-garden tea, but it’s not the right temperature for the creation of all hot drinks, hence being able to adjust the boil temperature.
